Announcements
The annual Bear Mountain Homeowners’ Summer Picnic for 2010 will be held on Sunday, August 29th from 2-5PM and will be hosted by John & Marilyn Graham at 4796 Bear Mountian Drive. The BMHOA will provide the main dishes and all the accoutrements, and beverages too, and we request that those attending with last names beginning with the letters: A through F, bring a dessert; G through P, bring an appetizer; and Q through Z, bring a salad or side dish.
This is our Annual Meeting as well, and officers for the following year will be elected - there will be at least two openings this year. If you are interested in serving your community, please call any Board of Directors member.
ALL BMHOA MEMBERS ARE INVITED –– Now is the time to pay your annual dues (only $35.00) for the 2010-2011 year. This gets you and your family admittance to the BMHOA Summer Picnic, as well as other benefits. So bring a check with you to the event, or mail your payment in now (Use the Membership link to get a form).
This is always a great party and if you are new, it is a fine time to meet your wonderful neighbors. RENTERS ARE WELCOME to join the association and come to the party.
As usual, we’d like to have some volunteers to help set up and clean up, and this would be greatly appreciated… We hope to see everyone there, kids included!
The Bear Mountain area
has a significant problem with invasive,
noxious weeds. Laws make residents responsible for controlling noxious
weeds. Knapweed is in a major growth stage right now, with buds beginning to
appear. It grows in meadow areas, but especially along roadsides and driveways.
Now is a prime time to get rid of it, either by pulling it out by the roots
after a rain when the ground is softer, or by spraying it with weed killer. The
spray is easy to apply and effective, but if you prefer not to put chemicals in
the ground where your well water comes from, the only effective alternative is
pulling. If you pull it, wear gloves, because the sap contains a
skin irritant. Knapweed
puts its own chemicals into the soil that inhibit growth of
native plants, and is also toxic to most animals. Cutting knapweed does
not work, it merely restarts growth. Thistle and toadflax are other problem
weeds here, but knapweed is the most pervasive and worst problem.
There are major knapweed infestations
along Independence Trail, Fern Gulch Road, and
North Mountain Park Drive
in particular.
Jefferson County regulations require homeowners to deal with weeds.
The BMHOA backpack sprayer and spray
are available free to all members, as is an allotment of spray. Rich Dunrud (303-674-5638)
is in charge of these. For more information about local noxious weeds, we
have resource materials in our library (call Maggie at
303-674-6155) or you may contact the

BMHOA NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE SALE -
JULY 24TH
THE NEW DATE FOR THIS
EVENT IS
SATURDAY JULY 24. This is now a firm date, not a tentative one.
We will operate like last year where
sellers set up at home, and the
HOA will put together maps and brief statements of the contents of each
sale for distribution at the first locations as people enter the HOA area. That
way, advertising costs were kept low but more people came because they could
easily find a bunch of sales in a small area on the same day. We even had some
shoppers come up from the flatlands last year.
If you are interested in joining in
this neighborhood sale, please let us know by responding to this message to <bmhoa@yahoo.com>.
And if you are interested in coordinating the sale, we need volunteers. You can
get advice from last year's coordinators. The work involved is little more than
it would be for putting on a sale of your own, and the expense is less.
Thanks.
